    How the split works

For each expense, the amount is divided equally between the people it was split with. If it doesn't divide evenly, the leftover cents go to the first people in the list. Adding up what each person paid and what they owe gives everyone a balance.

To settle up, the person who owes the most pays the person who is owed the most, and this repeats until everyone is even. This takes at most one transfer fewer than the number of people, and often fewer.

    Tips for splitting trip costs

    • Log expenses on the day you pay. It is much harder to remember who paid for the taxi a week later.
    • Use "Split between" for things only part of the group shared, like a dinner some people skipped.
    • Pick one currency for the whole trip. If you paid in several currencies, convert each amount at the rate your card charged before you enter it.
    • Send the Share link to the group so everyone sees the same numbers before anyone transfers money.

    Common questions

    Where is my trip saved?

In your browser on this device. It is not uploaded anywhere. Clearing your browser data or using a private window will remove it, so use Share or Copy if you want a copy elsewhere.

Can the rest of the group edit the same trip?

The Share link opens a copy of the trip with everything filled in. Changes someone makes on their phone stay on their phone, so pick one person to keep the master list.

Can I split an expense unevenly?

Not yet. For now, enter the uneven part as a separate expense and split it only with the people it belongs to.
