Packing weight planner
Add up what goes in your bag before you get to the airport scale. Pick your bag and limit, count your items, and see how much room is left.
What goes in the bag
Your bag weighs about
10.1kg- Room left
- 12.9 kg
- Bag itself
- 4 kg
- Heaviest group
- Clothes
Airport scales differ. Leave about 1 kg spare for souvenirs.
How the estimate works
Each item uses an average weight taken from the middle of published clothing and product weight ranges. The planner adds them up, adds the empty weight of your bag, and compares the total with your limit. Real items vary with size and fabric, so treat the result as a close estimate and weigh the bag at home if you are within 1 kg of the limit.
| Item | Weight used |
|---|---|
| T-shirt or top | 180 g |
| Jeans | 750 g |
| Sweater or hoodie | 600 g |
| Winter coat | 1.5 kg |
| Sneakers, per pair | 800 g |
| Laptop | 1.6 kg |
| Full toiletry bag | 1 kg |
| Medium checked suitcase, empty | about 4 kg |
Ways to get under the limit
- Wear your heaviest shoes and jacket on the plane. They don't count toward your checked bag.
- Move dense items like a laptop or books to your carry-on if its own limit allows.
- Buy full-size toiletries at your destination. A full toiletry bag is often the heaviest non-clothing item.
- Check your bag's own weight. Older or large hard-shell suitcases can use a fifth or more of a 23 kg allowance before you pack anything.
Common questions
Can I put a power bank in my checked bag?
No. Spare lithium batteries, including power banks, must travel in your carry-on under airline safety rules. Pack it in your cabin bag and count it there.
How accurate is this compared with weighing the bag?
For a typical trip the estimate usually lands within a kilogram or two. Heavy denim, boots and large sizes push it up. If the result is close to your limit, weigh the packed bag on a bathroom scale: weigh yourself holding it, then subtract your own weight.
What is a common checked bag limit?
Many economy fares on international flights allow 23 kg (50 lb) per checked bag, and many cabin bags are limited to 7 to 10 kg. Rules differ by airline, route and fare, so always check your booking.
